Miriam L. Jacobs was born in Queens, New York in 1960. The fourth of five children, she excelled in school using her talent for writing as a way to cope with social stresses. Her first published poem was in 1978 in the Jabberwocky Literary Magazine when she was a senior in High School. Continuing to write articles, editorials and essays, it was a natural progression to write online to raise public awareness when her first grandchild was born with a rare skin condition known as Giant Congenital Nevus. Author Jacobs wrote My Name is Not Monkey Girl, first released in June 2007, as a tool to promote compassion and tolerance, and to raise funds for her granddaughter's continuing facial reconstructive surgeries.

WHAT'S THE STORY?
Candace is a very special little girl who is very much like other children.
She loves to have fun, make new friends, play ball, jump rope and dance.

Twelve year old Candace was born with a very special birthmark called a Giant Congenital 'Hairy' Nevus. This condition is very rare and frightens many children away from her before they even get to know what a lovely friend she can be. Candace explains, in her own way, what her world is like. See what it is like to be a real friend in this adventure of a day in the life of a child as seen through the eyes of a little girl who was born with a Nevus on her face.
